WHAT IS CINEFILE?

cinefile is the  2018 founded trilingual Swiss cinema guide, streaming service and Blu-Ray rental for lovers of international arthouse and entertainment films.

The continuously supplemented streaming and Bu-Ray selection ranges from recent cinema hits to classics and is done according to the principle of class instead of mass: we only select films that we would rent ourselves if we had not already seen them. All streaming and Blu-Ray films are available in HD and original versions with freely selectable subtitles, and some are also available in German or French dubbed versions.

Our range is available for individual rental with the free registration Basic or with the subscription Take 2/3/4, which includes 2, 3 or 4 films per month, or 12, 18 or 24 films per half-year with discounts of 35 to 53 percent. Accompanying all streaming flms we provide
bonus material such as reviews, video essays, live interviews and film portraits.

The cinefile cinema guide offers a complete overview of the Swiss cinema program with all important details and reservation links to all films, including art house cinemas and open airs. All cinema and streaming films that interest you can be saved in a personal watchlist.

WHAT does the cinefile newsletter offer?

The cinefile newsletter provides free weekly information about our new additions and all cinema premieres that we think are worth seeing, with trenchant short reviews. With more than 13,000 subscribers, it is probably the largest film newsletter in Switzerland.

WHAT DO THE FILMS COST individually and as a subscription ON CINEFILE?

The single rental for all streaming films is CHF 7.50, for Blu-Rays CHF 6.00 plus postage. Each rented film is available to you for one full week.
With the monthly or semi-annual discount packages Take 2, 3 or 4, the price per movie drops from CHF 4.90 to CHF 3.50, depending on the subscription. All subscriptions can be upgraded, downgraded or paused at any time with one click.

HOW CAN I PAY ON CINEFILE?

You can pay by credit card or purchase credits. Twint and Postfinance will be available as additional payment methods in mid-August 2023.

HOW TO GIVE CINEFILE VOUCHERS ?

We offer online vouchers for 25 and 50 francs. Each credit can be used at your discretion for subscriptions or renting individual movies.

CAN YOU STREAM CINEFILE ON THE BIG SCREEN?

So far, you can stream our streaming movies to your big screen using HDMI cable, Apple TV's Airplay feature or Google Chromecast.
However, we are working on TV apps for Sony, Samsung, LG and Philips that will allow you to select and watch our movies directly with your TV remote.
The apps should be available from September 2023, and the offer is constantly being expanded.  

CAN THE MOVIES ALSO BE DOWNLOADED AND WATCHED OFFLINE?

So far, cinefile movies cannot be downloaded and watched offline.
However, we are working on a download function that should be available by the end of 2023.

CAN I PAUSE THE STREAMING?

Yes, you can pause the streaming of any movie as many times as you want and also watch entire movies multiple times. However, the restriction is that each movie will be available for a maximum of 48 hours after the first start of streaming.

CAN CINEFILE ALSO BE USED ABROAD?

Yes, as long as you have deposited a Swiss payment method with us. We reserve the right to make isolated exceptions to this rule.
